Where Dreams Become Brews

Closing of the Patreon, Future of the Foundry

Hey folks. As the title says, I have made the decision to shut down the Patreon. This may come as a shock to some, or perhaps the writing has been on the wall for others, but I’ve been feeling it coming for a long time, and I think recent life events have put the final nail in the coffin. I had some optimism that I might be able to just take a break and find a new rhythm, but I don’t think that’s going to help this time.

Long story short, last month I got a new job and it has consumed me. I no longer have any energy for content creation, and with what little content I was able to produce already taking longer than I’d like, I cannot in good conscience continue to charge people when offering so little in return. To anyone who has stuck around for all this time, you are incredibly generous and a saint, and I do not deserve you.

In 1 week, on Wednesday, December 11th, I will be unlaunching the Patreon page. Until then, billing has been paused.

So what about the future? Well, I think I might move things over to Ko-Fi, which is built around a more donation based system of monetization that I’m much more comfortable with. They’ve been updating a lot over there and there are some really appealing features that might suit me better than Patreon. In general, I want to focus any monetization efforts on donations and maybe pay-what-you-want style purchases for content, but we’ll see. For right now, I just want to go back to how it was, quietly working on stuff when I could and posting when I felt it was ready.

Until then, I’m going to go walk off into the woods for an indeterminate amount of time to recharge, and when I get back, we can start a new journey, and I hope you’ll all join me. If Patreon is the only platform you follow me on, come find me on my website, Tumblr, or Ko-Fi. Thank you all so much for the support over the years, stay safe, don’t forget to love each other, and I hope to see you again soon.

Enjoy my content? Consider subscribing to the newsletter so you never miss a post! If you’d like to support my work, you can do so through Ko-Fi!
